Simon West -Making bird boxes

Simon West from the Forestry Commission came in to speak to years 3, 4 and 5 about birds within our area. He showed the children slides about different birds and where they nest. He also spoke about the different types of birds we would see in our school environment. To show the children where different birds nest he played a game where some them were sparrows whilst others were blue tits.

Year 5 children made bird boxes with Simon West. He showed them step by step how to make the boxes. They nailed all the pieces of wood together and secured the lid with a rubber tube so that other birds could not get in. The bird boxes will be put up around the school site so that blue tits will be able to nest safely.

In the Autumn Term the boxes were put up at various sites around the school ready for the birds to use in the spring.
